The eye-catching decoration of the bathrooms at the new Felipe Angeles International Airport, located in Santa Lucia, was seen on Sunday.

The toilets are themed with different decorations related to key elements of Mexican culture or history, such as wrestling, mariachis or catrinas.

Victor Enrique Ponce, lieutenant engineer in charge of decorating the bathrooms, explained that “we have the Mayan bathroom, the Olmeca bathroom, the Teotihuacan bathroom, and the Azteca bathroom. In those bathrooms of places we have the bathroom of Mexico City, the bathroom of Tequila, the bathroom of Xochimilco, and the bathroom of the Castle of Chapultepec.”

Hundreds of users have expressed their disapproval of the toilet art on social networks and pointed out that it is an easy way to stereotype Mexican culture, especially to foreigners who arrive at the airport.

Felipe Angeles International Airport, one of the flagship works of the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, will be inaugurated at the end of March.
