Karma police! Mexican officer gains fans for rapping about job
29-year-old policeman Alan Galvan has managed to combine work with his music hobby, as seen in his hometown of Chalco on Friday.
Known by his rap name Ese Gorrix, Galvan raps about the daily life of his duties, which include everything from operations against drug cartels to the arrests of organised crime leaders. He is leading the way in a genre that has been dubbed “war rap”, which itself is a response to narcocorridos, a music genre that narrates the lives of drug traffickers.
In his rhymes, the rapper assures that not everyone can be a police officer and takes the opportunity to show his rejection of all the officers who have stained the profession's reputation. He is also respected both as a rapper locally, as some locals greeted him and took photos.
"Most of the time when you have a dream people tease and criticise you, including your family, but I think you have to believe in yourself. Later on, you will achieve what you have in mind." said Galvan.
He records his music, which is also available on Spotify, in a small studio that he set up at home. He has also amassed around 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel in eight years, with plenty of followers on his other social channels. In addition, he has sponsored other musicians from Chalco and from different neighbourhoods of the City and the State of Mexico, whom he has helped record songs and boost their careers on social networks.
