Dozens of people came to the Jaguar Yuu café in Oaxaca to watch some of the nativity scenes at the Night of Radishes on Thursday.

Footage shows details of the Nativity scenes and other figures made from radishes, as well as how some of the artisans sprinkle water on the figures to moisten them. The Night of Radishes is a traditional event that has been held in Oaxaca for more than a century.

"Our task is not to let the tradition die, that is the task or the reason why we seek and appreciate the opportunity that many hotels and places in the city give us to show our work," said Karoy Gonzalez, a participant in the Night of Radishes.

For the second year in a row, the event had to be held in a reduced form due to the restrictions caused by COVID-19.

According to local reports, the Night of Radishes originated from an initiative of some hotel businessmen in Oaxaca in 1897.
