Russia: Leo DiCaprio fans donate jewellery, plan to present him with 'Oscar'
A group of predominately female Leonardo DiCaprio fans formed an initiative called 'Oscar for Leo!' which saw them associate to donate old silverware, mostly necklaces, in the city of Yakutsk on Thursday.
The gathered silver will later be used to make a silver replica of the Oscar trophy, the only acclamation the famous actor lacks. A clay model has already been sculpted and now silversmiths just need to cast the award and deliver it to DiCaprio.
One fan, Karina Chiryaeva, claimed that they believe the "cinema is a mass art" and therefore "the audience also has the right to give an award." Chiryaeva added that "as people who respect Leonardo DiCaprio's creativity, we decided to present him with this award." Another member of the initiative, Sardana Savvina, said that "We, the northern Yakut women, are hoping that this year he will win it. In any case, we very much hope he will receive it both from us and from academy."
The American actor has been nominated for an Academy Award on six occasions, including four nominations for the Best Actor category, one for Best Supporting Actor, and once for the Executive Producer one. His latest nomination is in the category Best Actor for the 2016 film 'The Revenant'.
