Czech Republic: Hundreds of anti-Islam protesters rally in Pilsen
Hundreds of anti-Islam protesters gathered in the centre of Pilsen on Saturday, to rally against the measures taken by European countries in terms of the ongoing refugee crisis and an alleged 'Islamisation of Europe'.
The protesters denied involvement or relation to any political parties, but exposed numerous Czech nationalist flags, along with banners and placards aimed against Islam and the institutions they hold responsible for mismanaging the crisis. Over the course of two hours, the gathered crowd listened to people who were giving speeches.
Zdenek Chytra, one of the speakers, stated that they are "afraid that the Sharia law will rule one day here" and as a consequence they would be "obliged to convert to Islam and we don't want that." Chytra went on to add that had the New Year's events occurred in the Czech Republic instead of Cologne, the people "would take it all in own hands and defend themselves."
A coalition of anti-immigrant groups plans to hold mass demonstrations across the EU on February 6. Groups from the Czech Republic are also expected to participate, according to reports.
