Local farmers and entrepreneurs discussed the damage caused by devastating floods which hit Ravenna in the Emilia-Romagna region last week.

"We find ourselves in situation of complete flooding. We can still define flooding as complete, even though the water is now beginning to drain very slowly, thanks to the pumps provided by the civil protection service and by farmers and all those who are giving us a hand. The assistance is welcomed," commented one farmer Daniele Gieri.

Footage shows multiple water pumps being placed in submerged areas to distribute excess water to avoid triggering more flooding on the land and save the plants.

The workers noted that the level of water was slowly decreasing but many plants were damaged due to the disaster.

"When it drains, and it will take a few days, we'll see how the plants respond. We're probably in a period of plant growth that doesn't leave much hope," shared another local farmer, Dino Gaetta.

"We have lost the entire cereal crop, and Emilia Romagna is the third region for wheat production tender nationwide," commented president of the Coldiretti farmers union, Ettore Prandini.

According to local media, the costs of the flooding stand at 2-3 billion euros for agriculture alone.
