03:30Syria: Khabur river flooding kills at least 2 in bridge collapse in Hasakah
At least two people were killed and dozens of houses were damaged due to the floods of the Khabur river in the city of Hasakah on Saturday after a rainstorm swept through the eastern regions of Syria.
"We had notified the civil defence who rushed in cooperation with Hasakah's City Council to evacuate 35 flood-afflicted families from the Khabur River bed to safer areas. We responded by providing them with all basic needs such as food, shelter and means of transportation," said Adnan Khajo, Head of Hasakah's City Council, who added, "a bridge adjacent to the city of Hasakah completely collapsed and 2 to 4 people died".
The Al-Hasakah governorate witnessed a massive drought as a result of the lack of rain, which caused great damage to large areas of rain-fed agricultural lands and livestock in the past two years.
