Rescue were seen at the site of collapsed buildings in Aleppo on Wednesday, following deadly earthquakes across Syria and Turkey.

Footage shows staff wearing protective clothing, with two excavators digging through the debris and moving rubble from the site.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey at 04:17 local time (01:17 GMT) on Monday. A second, slightly smaller quake came less than 12 hours later, with the impact of both felt across the Middle East.

According to the Syrian Health Ministry, the country’s death toll stands at 1,262, with 2,285 injured. Turkey’s disaster management agency confirmed that 8,500 had lost their lives, with both numbers expected to rise.

The World Health Organisation warned that total casualties could reach 20,000.
