Hotdog or donut? Bavarian baker cooks up best of both ahead of carnival season

A Bavarian baker has created a special donut with a difference; instead of just the traditional jam, this one also comes with sausage, onions and curry sauce, as seen in footage from Meisbach on Tuesday.

Dubbed the 'Bosna-donut' - after the traditional Austrian hotdog-style 'Bosna' snack - footage shows Florian Perkmann assembling his rather unorthodox creation.

"I often go to Salzburg and because I like to try and eat the Bosna sausages, I wanted to and it occurred to me that this could not be done on a donut," he explained.

"It’s a pork sausage with raw onions and a special Bosna (curry-style) sauce and of course surrounded by our wonderful donuts with a currant and raspberry filling. So just well balanced," Perkmann continued.

He’s tried a similar trick before with Leberkasekrapfen - meatloaf donuts - and some of his customers can’t get enough of the new twist.

"I’ve always eaten the Leberkasekrapfen in recent years, at first you think it's a combination that doesn't go together. Once you've tried it, you come back every year and say I want to try it again," claimed one local, Soren.

Perkmann hopes the snack will be a hit during carnival season, which takes place in February, although he’s promised that he could keep making them as long as there’s a demand.
