Thousands of travellers returned home for the Chinese Spring Festival or Lunar New Year celebrations on Friday after years of COVID-induced restrictions.
Footage recorded on Beijing West Railway station showed the high passenger flow, as many families are set to reunite for the holidays.
"Because of the epidemic, it was inconvenient to get out of Beijing before, so I didn't go home for two years”, said Miss Sun, a citizen travelling on Friday.
"Because of the epidemic, many people have not gone home for three years, now it is open, we can protect ourselves, and everyone will want to go home," commented Mr Luo, who was headed to Xi'an.
According to the Chinese Ministry of Transport, on January 19, on the 13th day of the Spring Festival, the country's railways, highways, waterways and civil aviation registered a total of 46,155 passengers. In Beijing West Railway station alone, 3,68 million passengers are expected during the festive period.
China is recovering its travelling flows after the government dropped the 'zero Covid' policy last December, lifting restrictive measures like quarantines and mandatory tests for passengers.
The Spring Festival travel rush, also known as 'Chunyun', is considered one of the world's largest human migrations. It will last for 40 days, from January 7 to February 15.
