New York residents flocked to the Polar Bear Club at Coney Island beach for the 120th New Year’s plunge on Sunday.

"It’s like 55 degrees (Fahrenheit, 12.7 degrees Celsius) outside, so it doesn't feel cold out here," said one local, Mario. "But in the water it feels like negative 100 but it was good. I did it three times, I'm about to going for my fourth time right now."

Footage shows the participants splashing in the Atlantic ocean, as crowds gathered to watch the swimmers brave the cold and celebrate the start of 2023.

"Wishing everybody in the world so much love, happiness and blessings, God bless, Happy New Year," said another resident, Eloise.

The swimming club is the oldest winter bathing group in the US, and has held the annual New Year’s plunge since 1903.
