Saudi Arabia: 'China will continue to firmly support GCC countries'- Xi Jinping at Gulf summit in Riyadh
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that Beijing would 'continue to firmly support' Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, speaking at a summit in Riyadh on Friday.
"China will continue to firmly support the GCC countries, safeguard their own security, support regional countries to resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, and build a collective security framework in the Gulf. GCC countries are welcome to participate in the Global Security Initiative to jointly maintain regional peace and stability," Xi Jinping said.
He went on to say that China and GCC countries should 'constantly consolidate political mutual trust, firmly support each other's core interests, jointly safeguard the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, jointly practice true multilateralism, safeguard the common interests of the vast number of developing countries, and be partners in common development.'
Moreover, President Xi said that Beijing would work to buy oil and gas in yuan in order to support China's goal to establish its currency internationally.
"We will make full use of the platform of the Shanghai Oil and Gas Trading Centre to carry out RMB settlement of oil and gas trade and strengthen technical cooperation in clean and low-carbon energy such as hydrogen energy, energy storage, wind photovoltaic and smart grid, as well as cooperation in localised production of new energy equipment," Xi Jinping said.
The GCC consists of six members including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman. The 43rd GCC summit was headed by Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman, with the attendance of the Qatari Emir, King of Bahrain, Kuwaiti Crown Prince, and Omani deputy Prime Minister.
