Migratory birds started arriving at the Hokersar Wetlands in Kashmir Valley ahead of the winter, as seen in the footage filmed on Wednesday.

The birds, from Siberia, China, the Philippines, Eastern Europe, and Japan, have flown thousands of kilometres to arrive at the location near Srinagar in Kashmir.

"With the onset of winter, the migratory birds who come from central Asia, Europe, China, and other regions, their migration period starts in the month of October, and these birds stay here till March; their staying period depends on the climatic conditions of our region, and then they move back to their actual habitat," said Sajjid Farooq, range officer of lakes at the Department of Wildlife Protection in Jammu and Kashmir.

Thousands of migratory birds, including coots, teals, mallards, and pintails, will spend the winter in the valley's comparatively mild climate.
