A service for famous Italian actress Monica Vitti took place in Rome on Friday. Vitti passed away on Wednesday, aged 90 from a degenerative disease.
Vitti was most well known for her roles in Michelangelo Antonioni's films in the 1960s.
The actress won seven Italian Golden Globes for Best Actress, five David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress, the Career Golden Globe and the Venice Film Festival Career Golden Lion Award.
The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, received the coffin this morning together with Monica Vitti's husband, Roberto Russo.
"She was a great actress in Italian cinema. Also, a woman committed in the civic and political sense. She has been a great figure and the city cries for her," said Gualtieri.
