Hard-to-kill masterpieces! Filipino artist goes viral for painting on dead cockroaches
A 30-year-old self-taught Filipino artist went viral for showing off her very peculiar painting skills, as seen in Manila on Wednesday.
Brenda Delgado creates artwork on dead cockroaches.
According to the young artist, it all started around six months ago when she found a cockroach while painting and noticed that the inset's back could be used as a canvas.
"This started July last year. While I was painting, a cockroach landed. Normally we kill it, but when I was about to kill it, I noticed that its back is smooth. I started playing with it with paint then I took a photo, but I did not post it. When I saw another cockroach I did it again,” Brenda said.
Although Brenda has only recently started painting on cockroaches she was interested in art and design from a young age.
“I was already earning from this when I was still young. I made comics and sold them to my elementary classmates. I made and designed accessories like bracelets, rings and necklaces and they bought them,” said the artist, who also creates artwork on more conventional surfaces.
Brenda uploads her cockroach artwork on her Instagram account, which has received mixed reactions from users.
"Some chat me. There was that one who was convincing me to come to a bible study. I guess he thought that I was going crazy,” she said.
"I have also been called a psychopath," she laughed. "Is my sin really that big?" Brenda asked, showing that she is not discouraged by negative comments.
