Egyptian artist and artisan Ibrahim Adel, created a giant transformer sculpture using waste parts of the traditional Alexandria taxi cab, as seen in footage filmed on Wednesday.

Taxis in Egypt’s city of Alexandria are known for their yellow and black colour with a distinctive shape that has not changed for years.

“When it first appeared here, everyone was fascinated by it though it wasn’t finished yet and some parts needed to be installed. Everyone was impatiently waiting to complete the model in order to take photos and enjoy it. No one believed that the characters they used to see on TV are just here,” Adel said.

He added that he chose this particular character because firstly “the series is very famous, which means it has a significant impact on everyone,” and because “the character was a model for cars so it is normal for it to be re-built using car parts.”

The 7-meter high model took 28 days to be completed using 500 kg of waste from car parts. It was transferred from Cairo to Alexandria and placed inside a mall in the coastal city.

Adel had previously built 6 giant sculptures inspired by pharaonic and historic figures and dreams about establishing the world’s biggest museum for recycled sculptures.
