A Santa Claus impersonator used a fire engine lift to bring the Christmas spirit to patients staying at a COVID-19 isolation centre on Tuesday in Lima.

The centre is located at the city’s Pan American Village and currently hosts over a hundred minors.

Drone footage shows Santa Claus visiting and waving at patients while going window-to-window as part of a cheerful ordeal.

On the ground, medical staff performed dances for their spectators.

The actor behind Santa, Paul Heinz Suarez Gamarra, explained that the aim of the event was to send a “message of encouragement” to patients, while wishing them a “speedy recovery.”

“What the Pan-American Village has done today has been something exciting, it has brought us joy and we have had fun for a moment," said patient Florinda Ticona.

The initiative was organised by Peru’s social security institution, EsSalud.

According to the World Health Organisation, Peru recorded 1,527 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
