USA: 83 y/o hiker becomes oldest to complete Appalachian Trail
83-year-old MJ 'Sunny' Eberhart recounted the struggles and joys of becoming the oldest hiker to complete the Appalachian trail, as seen in Sylacauga, Alabama, on Tuesday.
The hike marked Eberhart's third completion of the 2,193 mile (3529km) trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine.
"I was looking back to the joy and the ease with which I did those other two hikes. But the age I am at now, I hadn't expected to have to deal with this sort of struggle that ended up being", said Eberhart, stating that he'd faced more limitations 'physically' this time than 'mentally or spiritually.'
Eberhart reached the end of the trail in November. The hiker was joined in the final leg by Dale Sanders, who held the previous record for oldest person to complete the trail, finishing it at age 82.
