Hours after the death of footballing legend Diego Armando Maradona was confirmed, muralist Alfredo Segatori went to the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of La Boca and began work on a giant mural in tribute to Argentina's late footballing hero on Tuesday.

Segatori managed to use his contacts to arrange a crane and a huge wall where he could capture his sketch in a short period of time.

The location is only seven blocks from the La Bombonera stadium, owned by Boca Juniors, the club where Maradona became a hero while exhibiting his unparalleled talent as a footballer.

Images filmed on Tuesday show Segatori painting the enormous mural, rising above the ground on the crane to capture the smallest details of his work, in which Maradona is depicted as a saint next to a football.

"And the robe and the borders of the mouth are appearing, with the colours of Boca Juniors in everything that is his wardrobe and the flag is going to be an Argentinean sky, and let's say that Diego has that expression of tranquility," stated Segatori.

The artist also explains the reasons that motivated him to paint the mural in memory of Diego Maradona: "And for me, Diego is a little bit that mixture of the idol and the common person, someone who always gave me joy not only when he was a player," the muralist went on to say.

Maradona sadly passed away aged 60 on November 25th from a heart attack. He had also been hospitalised just two weeks ago to remove a blood clot from his brain.
