Germany: Candles lit at Trier's Porta Nigra after car ramming leaves 5 dead
Candles were lit at Trier's Porta Nigra late on Tuesday evening, to honour the victims of the deadly car ramming, that saw the deaths of five people, with several more injured, earlier in the day.
The victims were between nine-months-old and 73-years-old, with the baby's mother currently being treated in hospital, according to the police.
Police cars were spotted patrolling the area around the accident.
A car was driven through a pedestrian zone in Trier's city centre, allegedly by a drunk driver, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, and leaving many injured.
An investigation into the motive is still underway. Senior public prosecutor Peter Fritzen said "a psychiatric expert will certainly be commissioned" during the proceedings.
