Greece: Cyclone batters island of Zakynthos
Footage shows a cyclone named Ianos hitting a beach hotel in Kalamaki, on the island of Zakynthos early Friday morning.
The cyclone described as a 'medicane' hit the islands of Ionian islands on Thursday evening. The severe weather caused several power cuts throughout the islands due to strong winds and falling trees.
Emergency services reportedly received a large number of calls from residents stuck in cars. A boat carrying migrants was also stranded at sea, with coast guards unable to reach the vessel due to the force of winds, according to local reports.
The Greek national meteorological agency has issued a high-level red alert for rain and storm.
