
Syria: Albukamal crossing on border with Iraq reopened in ceremony
Five years after being captured by the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), the Albukamal border crossing between Syria and Iraq was reopened for trade and travel at a ceremony on Monday.
Syrian and Iraqi flags and images of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad were seen at the crossing. Governor of Anbar province Ali Al Dulaimi and Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad al-Rahmoun were present at the event.
The border crossing was retaken in 2017 by Iraqi forces backed by an international coalition.
