Twenty wooden statuettes were found in an adobe wall at the Peruvian archaeological complex of Chan Chan on Tuesday.

The statuettes date back to about 800 years ago and were discovered during an archaeological dig in the mud city of Chan Chan, located in Northern Peru close to the city of Trujillo.

"In these spaces there are two findings that stand out from the archaeological point of view, one of them is that of 20 ornaments containing wooden statuettes in the corridor of the entrance of the walled complex and the other is the finding of walls decorated with high relief scenes in what would be the area of circulation from the corridor to the main courtyard," archaeologist Henry Galloso Rullier said form the site of the discovery..

Chan Chan is the largest mud city in America, the capital of pre-Inca empire of the Chimu that dominated the Peruvian north coast between the 12th and 14th centuries.
