Students of higher and secondary education - together with the College of Teachers - began the first major student national march of the year and the first against new president Sebastian Pinera in Santiago on Thursday.

Thousands of secondary and university students participated in the first mobilisation of the new second term of the government of Sebastian Pinera, to demonstrate against what they call a sexist-education, profit and Credit with Aval del Estado (CAE).

The demonstration was called by the Confederation of Students of Chile (Confech), the School of Teachers, the National Coordinator of Secondary Students (Cones) and the Coordinating Assembly of Secondary Students (ACES).

The protest gathered thousands of people in the capital, who marched with dances, banners and canvases. Despite the intentions of the organisers, clashes between riot police and some protesters occurred during the march.
