
USA: US drops 'mother of all bombs' on IS in Afghanistan, Spicer confirms
US Press Secretary Sean Spicer confirmed that the US has dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb in eastern Afghanistan during a press briefing from Washington DC, Thursday.
According to Spicer, the 21,000lb GBU-43 bomb, nicknamed the ‘Mother of all bombs’ or ‘MOAB’, was dropped by a MC-130 aircraft in the Achin district of Nangarhar near Pakistan at around 19:00 local time.
The strike was reportedly targeting fighters aligned to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) in the region’s hills.
