Venezuela: Opposition-led congress pass resolution declaring Maduro 'abandoned his post'
The Venezuelan opposition-led Congress approved a resolution, in Caracas, on Monday, that declared Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had “abandoned his post.”
President of the National Assembly and leader of Venezuelan coalition of opposition parties Julio Borges explained, “The charges against Nicolas Maduro Moros were approved. The most important thing is that (this measure) demands an electoral solution to Venezuela’s crisis, so that the people can express themselves through the vote. And that’s what this Congress is asking for.”
As the Venezuelan National Assembly does not have the constitutional power to remove President Maduro from office, the resolution was a symbolic gesture.
