Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) would continue to work together closely to ensure security in the Asia-Pacific region. He was speaking in Vientiane on Monday during a ministerial meeting headed by the Laos Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.
Lavrov emphasised the importance of cooperation in the international arena and the necessity of collaborating on a number of joint projects. Representatives of ASEAN are about to discuss joint steps to be taken in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Lavrov also plans to meet with United States Secretary of State John Kerry in Vientiane on Tuesday.
