Italy: Villagers pull children out of school as refugees relocated to site next-door
Residents of the Italian town of Roverino rallied on Friday in protest against the decision of local administration to move refugees to a public gymnasium near a local elementary school.
Parents of the pupils blocked the streets to halt the preparation of the site that is expected to house refugees from Saturday onward. Only 35 children of 104 attended the school on Friday while the rest were reportedly ordered to stay indoors by their parents.
Earlier, the local sanitary authority detected malfunction in the sanitary system of the makeshift camp in the parish of Ventimiglia, thus enforcing the local administration to relocate refugees to another site.
