Germany: Will 'Wall-E' help rid central Augsburg of smokers?
A small blue robot wandered the streets of Augsburg, Monday to help keep track of a smoking ban.
Smoking on the platforms at the central Koenigsplatz area was banned in 2014, but despite signs many kept on smoking. Creative minds at the Augsburg public utilities operator came up with a solution to the problem, with the robot supposed to help stop smokers in their tracks.
The little robot that looks a lot like Disney robot Wall-E, moves around from platform to platform at Koenigsplatz with a sign saying "the KO [Koenigsplatz] is non-smoking," or he approaches smokers with the message "please follow me" before guiding them towards non-smoking zones. The bot is controlled with an app via WiFi, by nearby public utilities employees.
