Russia: Putin touts economic ties with France at business meeting
Russian President Vladimir Putin met representatives from the French business community in Moscow on Wednesday.
The Russian leader said that “despite the well-known economic difficulties, motivated by political issues, none of the 500-plus French companies working on our market has left Russia”. He went on to say that “all of them continue their work, and we are very happy about it”.
On the other hand, he did note that “last year we witnessed a drop in goods turnover between our countries by more than 30 percent, to be precise the figure is 36 percent”. Despite that, Russia was improving “due to measures undertaken” resulting in the scale Doing Business of the World Bank, where "we rose from 120th place to 51st”. He added that "the change is noticeable and the progress is evident”.
After his speech, Putin asked the representatives of French business circles to express their thoughts about how to improve Russia’s economic environment for further French investments.
