UK: Protesters try to storm healthcare CEO meeting during jr. doctor’s strike
Protesters attempted to storm a meeting between a group of chief executive officers (CEOs) from some of the biggest global private healthcare corporations in London, Tuesday, on the same day as junior doctors conducted the first ever all-out doctors' strike in the history of the National Health Service (NHS) over the government's proposed contract changes.
Activists tried to disrupt the meeting at the Royal College of Physicians in central London however were blocked from entering by staff members.
Junior doctors across the country began striking at 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT) with nearly 13,000 routine operations and more than 100,000 appointments being postponed as a consequence.
The contract changes are part of a proposed government plan to extend NHS working hours. Under the new contracts employers can make junior doctors work longer, more unsociable hours without having to compensate them financially.
