Ukraine: Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk resigns
Arseniy Yatsenyuk resigned from his post as Prime Minister of Ukraine in Kiev on Sunday. He will submit his resignation to the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) on Tuesday 12.
Speaking in a televised adress, Yatsenyuk stated that his decision was based on "multiple reasons," including "the political crisis in the country," which he claimed was created artificially. He went on to point out that "the authors of the crisis became hostages to these circumstances, and turned all of us [...] into hostages as well."
Yatsenyuk's move came after increasingly coming under pressure over his economic policies, surviving a no-confidence vote in February and repeated calls for his resignation by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko. Through the withdrawal, the governing coalition lost their majority, which paves the way for the formation of a new government.
