Syria: Russian attack helicopters annihilate IS targets
Russia’s Ministry of Defence released footage showing Mil Mi-28 attack helicopter strikes on Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) positions outside Palmyra, Thursday.
The helicopter can be seen hitting what appears to be a militant armoured vehicle with anti-tank guided missile, effectively immobilising the target.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the Jihadist group accumulated up to 4,000 fighters, around 25 tanks, 40-plus mortars and other hardware in Palmyra and its suburbs. IS had also wired ten trucks with explosive devices which were designed for suicide bombing attacks.
