Yemen: Bahraini F-16 jet crashes in Saudi border town
Footage captured in a Yemeni border town purports to show the Bahraini F-16 jet, operating as part of the Saudi-led coalition, crashing on the Saudi Arabian side of the border with Yemen in the northern Saudi province of Jizan, Wednesday.
The downing of the jet was caused by a technical failure, according to local reports. A statement made to Saudi media by a coalition official confirms that the pilot survived the crash.
The Saudi-led coalition of Gulf nations has been launching airstrikes on Yemeni territory since March. According to UN figures, the ongoing conflict in Yemen has claimed the lives of more than 5,700 people, with the coalition conducting airstrikes and fighting on the ground in order to attack Houthi militias and restore the ousted government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
