Iran: Rouhani says Iranian armed forces are largest power against 'terror'
Iranian President Hasan Rouhani stated that "the largest power against intimidation and terror is our armed forces," in Tehran on Tuesday, during a military parade to mark the 35th anniversary of the start of the Iran-Iraq war.
He also said that "just as we have helped the governments of Syria and Iraq against terrorism, upon requests from their governments, if, heavens forbid, terrorism emerges in other neighboring countries, the governments of those countries will pin their hopes on the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Thousands of soldiers and hundreds of military vehicles took part in the parade to mark the start of Sacred Defence Week, to commemorate the beginning of the war with Saddam Hussain's Iraq, which started 1980 and lasted until 1988. Senior Iranian generals were present, along with delegations from foreign countries and a number of families of those killed during the war, as well as veterans.
