USA: Cleanup crews hit the beach after oil spill blackens 9-mile stretch
Local volunteers continued to clean up around 21,000 gallons (79,500 litres) of crude oil on Monday after it leaked from a ruptured pipeline in Goleta just a day earlier, flowing into the ocean near Santa Barbara, California.
One volunteer said that despite the ongoing effort to "try to get this mess handled", volunteers are forced to tackle the spill "without the government's help, because they're not doing anything down here".
Coast Crews managed to halt the leak by around 15.00 local time on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The 24-inch (60 cm) diameter pipeline, owned by Plains All American Pipeline, was shut down and blocked to prevent more oil from spilling into the ocean.
