
Syria: Bashar al-Assad and First Lady cast vote in Damascus
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and wife Asma al-Assad cast their votes among supporters in Damascus on Tuesday.
The Interior Ministry stated there are 15.8 million eligible voters inside and outside of Syria and 9,600 polling stations. Polls opened at 07.00 local time (4:00 GMT) and will close at 19:00.
Voters can choose between current President Bashar al-Assad, Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri from the National Initiative for Administration and Change in Syria, and independent candidate Maher Abdul-Hafiz Hajjar.
President Bashar al-Assad is expected to win a third seven-year term in office.
