Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev claimed that Western countries want to 'deal with' Russia before taking on China, during a press conference at the end of the 11th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues in Istra, Moscow region on Thursday.

"Not only Russia is one of the centres of a multipolar world. China is too. So once they [the Western countries], if they think they can deal with Russia, their next objective, which is difficult for them to deal with in parallel, is China," Patrushev commented.

The Russian Security Council secretary also added that 'unfriendly countries' had not been invited to this year's meeting.

"In my opinion, it would have been illogical if we had extended invitations to them. Firstly, they would not have come, and secondly, the way they are treating us now, we see it ourselves - sanctions, threats, whatever you can think of. <...> It is not our choice, it is their behaviour," the politician stated.

Thursday's meeting also included round-table talks on international information security and international co-operation in countering drug trafficking.

The 11th International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues was held in Moscow region from May 23-25.

More than 112 countries and organisations took part, represented by security council secretaries, national security advisers and aides to heads of state, deputy prime ministers and heads of special services and law enforcement agencies.
