USA: 'I had to come' - Mourners lay flowers at Tina Turner’s star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Fans of the 'Queen of Rock ’n' Roll', Tina Turner were seen laying flowers and candles at the late singer’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Footage shows a dozen mourners at the singer’s star, where her portrait had been placed.
A mourner named Robert Edwards claimed he was once Turner’s neighbour and had known the world-famous singer 'on a personal level'.
“We lived up the street from Tina Turner. And I would be at the house playing with Ike Junior and Ronnie. And I got to know Tina Turner on a personal level. And that’s why I’m so touched. I had to… I had to come,” he said.
“Tina was a great singer. I loved her energy. She was one of the greatest singers of the 21st century,” added a fan from France.
Turner shot to fame in the 1950s as part of the 'Ike and Tina Turner Revue' and subsequently launched a successful solo career with hits including 'What's love got to do with it' and 'The Best', winning her eight Grammy Awards along the way.
“With her, the world loses a musical legend and role model," her spokesperson, Bernard Doherty, said in a press release.
Tina Turner died aged 83 at her home on Wednesday, after a long, unspecified illness.
