Thousands of justice administration workers from all over Spain took to the streets of Madrid on Thursday for another protest to demand a salary increase and changes to the Organic Law on Organisational Efficiency (LOEO).

The demonstrators, called by the trade unions CSIF, CCOO, UGT and STAJ, held a symbolic coffin, banners and placards criticising Spanish Justice Minister Pilar Llop, with slogans such as ‘Fair Pay’ or ‘Indefinite Strike’.

“We want a negotiation with the Ministry of Justice as well as a corresponding salary increase, the Ministry of Justice has not received us to date, we accept the entry of the Organic Law of Organisational Efficiency but we want a negotiation, that a series of conditions that we do not agree with, such as forced mobility, etc., are not implemented just like that,” said Antonio, a justice administration worker.

The unions are demanding a salary increase of between 350 and 450 euros per month, and in addition to the strike, the Spanish judiciary is also facing a strike of court clerks.

The justice workers were galvanised by the collapse of the courts, which, according to data from the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), began in 2023, with more than three million cases pending resolution.

The demonstrators also demanded the suspension of the Organic Law of Organisational Effectiveness (LOEO), which, according to them, imposes new working conditions without prior negotiation.

"The Ministry of Justice wants to unilaterally change our working conditions by approving the Law of Organizational Efficiency without us and without prior negotiation, it seems unbelievable that a progressive government wants to change the conditions of workers without meeting and without negotiating them, we want a clear catalog of functions to know what we have to do and what we do not
