Russia: BRICS countries can create currency to replace dollar - Venezuelan ambassador
Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Jesus Rafael Salazar Velasquez claimed that the BRICS countries could create a currency to replace the dollar, while speaking on the sidelines of the second Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow on Wednesday.
"New international financial mechanisms should emerge now, after the dollar <...> which, as our vice president mentioned in her speech, has long been used as an instrument of blackmail <...> Countries should move forward to establish new financial mechanisms which will show that it is not only the physical currency of the existing ones that can replace the dollar," the diplomat claimed.
Meanwhile, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Liu Xuesong noted the successful development of Russian-Chinese relations.
"The trade structure is also diversifying. Not only do we import hydrocarbons from Russia, but we also import agricultural products, foodstuffs and other manufactured goods," he added.
The BRICS group consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The Eurasian Economic Forum takes place from 24 to 25 May. Representatives of more than 50 countries arrived in Moscow to participate in the event, including the leaders of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union), BRICS and SCO (Shanghai Co-operation Organisation) member states.
