Russian paratroopers were seen engaging in combat missions with the use of Typhoon-VDV multi-purpose armoured vehicles in the Ukrainian-Russian conflict zone, as reported by the Russian Defence Ministry on Friday.

The exact location and date of the footage used by the Ministry of Defence could not be independently verified.

Video shows an Airborne Forces (VDV) assault unit in Typhoon-VDV armoured vehicles firing a 30mm automatic cannon.

According to the ministry, after receiving data on the location of Ukrainian fortifications using a drone, the reconnaissance team transmitted the coordinates to the control point to be targetted.

The Typhoon VDV armoured vehicle is designed to transport personnel and engage foes.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
