Algeria: 'No third party can interfere' - Russian Federation Council Chair Matvienko on Russian-Algerian co-operation

The cooperation between Russia and Algeria is not subject to the influence of third parties, Chair of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko said at a meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Friday.

"For Russia, Algeria is a reliable and time-tested partner. And we very much appreciate that our friendship, our co-operation are not subject to political factors, that no third party can interfere in their development," the politician said.

Matviyenko said that both sides are currently working on updating strategic partnership declaration signed between the two countries in 2001.

"I think that in the near future we will sign a new updated declaration, which will be called a 'declaration on deepened strategic partnership'. I am confident that it will be ready as soon as possible," she added.

Valentina Matvienko 's official visit to Algeria runs from March 15 to 17.
