Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov and United Arab Emirates Economy Minister Abdullah bin Touk Al-Marri discussed bilateral co-operation on the sidelines of the 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russia-Emirates Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation in Moscow on Wednesday.

"In five years, the growth of trade turnover has increased sixfold and according to your statistics, as you said today, it was 10 billion [US dollars], and according to our [statistics] it was 9 billion [US dollars]. We prefer larger figures, so we assume that we should definitely cross the 10 billion [US dollars] mark this year," Manturov pointed out.

The Russian minister also added that the two sides agreed to continue cooperation in the field of oil and economic activities, taking into account the implementation of the North-South route project, and greater use of national currencies in bilateral payments.

For his part, Al-Marri said that Moscow and Abu Dhabi had worked out 'new co-operation programmes' between the countries in line with the prospective plans for the development of the Russian and UAE economies.

"Among these programmes, those aimed at developing large, medium and small private companies in both countries, as well as developing cooperation in tourism, in the green economy, in the development of manufacturing, as well as in the development of energy investments," the UAE economy minister stated.

The event also included a signing ceremony for the commission's final protocol and other documents.
