Russia: 'Nuland has now essentially made a confession'- Lavrov on US involvement in Nord Streams incident

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed what he described as US involvement in the Nord Stream pipelines incidents on Thursday in Moscow during an interview with Dmitri Kiselev, author and host of the Vesti Nedeli program on Russia 24 TV channel and CEO of the international media group Rossiya Segodnya, which also includes Sputnik. The video was distributed by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The top diplomat commented on US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland's words that 'the administration is, very gratified to know that Nord Stream 2 is now, as you like to say, a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea.'

"And it is not only the direct involvement of the United States in the bombings in the northern streams. Ms Nuland has now essentially made a confession. So there is a lot to recall and show what methods the United States uses to achieve its hegemony," Lavrov stated.

In late September of 2022, leaks were found in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea. The operator Nord Stream said three of the four strings were damaged, while German security services suggested that the pipelines could not be repaired.

The EU, US, NATO and Moscow claimed 'sabotage' to be the reason for the incident, although had different versions of events.

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the West had 'effectively started to destroy the pan-European energy infrastructure', while US President Joe Biden accused Moscow of 'pumping out disinformation and lies'.

Investigation of the accident is currently underway with Swedish, German and Danish authorities participating. On 31 October of 2022, Vladimir Putin announced that Gazprom had been allowed to survey the Nord Stream undermining site.
