Hundreds of demonstrators working in the social, health, and welfare sectors took to the streets of Paris on Thursday at the call of the National Union of Early Childhood Professionals (SNPPE) and the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) to demand better working conditions and higher wages.

"In the world of work, the workers are not fighting just for themselves. Social security is for everyone! Retirement is for everyone!" one of the protesters said.

Another rally participant noted that 'the systematic destruction' of the country's social sector for 40 years must be stopped. "We are moving from a social work of accompaniment to a social work of service in contempt of the employees but especially in hatred of the workers, in contempt of all the most discredited populations of our sector," the man added.

In total, SNPPE has reportedly called on some 30 similar protests across France.
