Bodycam footage released by the Memphis Police Department on Friday shows the the beating of Tyre Nichols by five police officers on January 7, 2022.
Footage from both bodyworn recorders and a street pole camera shows Nichols being dragged out of the car, before being punched and kicked, with officers using a taser and pepper spray.
At one stage he is heard calling out 'Mom!'. Officers can be heard shouting 'I’m gonna baton the fuck out of you," and 'give us your hands!'
The 29-year-old Black man is seeing being taken into custody, with an ambulance later arriving on scene. Nichols died three days later.
The authorities claimed he had been stopped for reckless driving. All five officers who, like Nichols, were black, have been fired and charged with second-degree murder.
