'Admiral Gorshkov' frigate tests electronic launch of Zircon missile in Atlantic - Russian DefMin
The crew of the 'Admiral of the Soviet Union Fleet Gorshkov' frigate practised the electronic launch of the hypersonic Zircon missile in the western Atlantic Ocean, according to the Russian Defence Ministry.
Footage released on Wednesday shows preparations for a missile strike against a conventional surface target, as well as the combat crew of the frigate performing their tasks.
"The work of the entire ship's combat crew confirmed all the characteristics that had been incorporated into this system. They showed these characteristics in the preliminary tests and in the state trials," said the ship's captain, Igor Krohmal.
The frigate, equipped with the Zircon hypersonic missiles, set sail on January 4. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally gave the orders for the ship to go on combat duty via video link.
In July 2022, Putin also announced the delivery of the Zircon hypersonic missile systems to the Russian Armed Forces.
