It seems 50 degrees below zero is no obstacle for creatives types; at least, not for those artists in Yakutsk, seen taking their brushes and easels out into the winter air on Saturday, January 21.
Organised by the Afanasiy Nikolaevich Osipov Gallery, the outdoor painting session, which artists call 'plein air' has taken place annually in Yakutsk since 2018 and is becoming increasingly popular with locals.
This year’s took place as part of the series of events marking what would’ve been Osipov's 95th birthday.
"At first I thought: who's going to paint in such frosty weather? But it turned out that our Yakut people are very active in this respect, and we are very happy about it," said graphic artist and Head of the Osipov Art Gallery Natalia Khristoforova.
Participants also said that painting in such conditions was an interesting experience and that the cold had no negative impact on their works.
