Kenyan researchers have converted gas-powered motorcycles and other petrol-guzzling machines into electric vehicles to cope with the rise in fuel prices, as seen in in Machakos County on Friday.
The footage features an electric motorbike, with batteries in place of a fuel tank, as well as factory workers assembling and working on different parts, including the body, engine and batteries.
"With less than 1 dollar, you can run your motorcycle for a whole day, compare to a diesel-powered motorcycle," said Joan Igamba, communication specialist from Roam Electric Bus in Kenya.
Roam, founded in 2017, focuses on electric conversions for trucks, public transport and motorbikes.
The government scrapped the fuel subsidies at the end of 2022, arguing they were 'unsustainable' for the country’s economy, increasing the cost of gasoline by around 13 per cent.
